At least, that seems to be the only possible explanation for Kellogg's Froot Loops' decision to redesign its beloved mascot, Toucan Sam, into something entirely unrecognisable and, quite frankly, terrifying.

The internet kind of hates Toucan Sam’s new design. Honestly, maybe consider unplugging from the internet grid altogether. On May 5th, 2020, the Froot Loops YouTube channel uploaded a commercial titled, “Toucan Sam's Froot Loops World,” that included the redesigned Toucan Sam.
It has a lot of elements of the original: the general color scheme, some design features like the feathers on the head and the plumage patterns. The new design shows the lovable toucan looking much brighter, crisper, and definitely a lot more cartoonish.
Instead of creating a slightly different version of the classic mascot, Toucan Sam has taken on a completely different appearance with a 2D design, trippy color combinations, an oversized eye and a mouth that doesn’t quite fit right.
However I think the coloring on the beak is lazy, it looks like they slapped a rainbow gradient on it without any regard to the angle the beak is at. The breakfast cereal brand took to Instagram this week (below) to reveal Toucan Sam's new look, and the reception was less than warm.
